Ph.D. (Eng.) Associate Professor at the Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo, Japan.
Urban & Building Physics, Environmental Fluid Dynamics, Wind Engineering, Inverse Problems
Hideki Kikumoto received his Ph.D. in Engineering in 2013 and his Master of Engineering in 2010, both from the Department of Architecture, School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo. He has held various positions at the Institute of Industrial Science, including Research Associate (2013 – 2017), Senior Lecturer (2017 – 2020), and Associate Professor (2020 – present). He is also a visiting professor at Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands (2022 – 2023).
Dr. Kikumoto's research interests lie in urban and building environments and environmental control engineering, emphasizing the wind, air, and thermal environment. He has been working on simulation and sensing technologies for environmental elements, mainly focusing on computational and experimental fluid dynamics. He has also been studying environmental analysis technologies that integrate simulation and sensing using statistical/data-driven methods. His current main research targets include airflow and pollutant dispersion in/around cities and buildings, building ventilation and air quality control, inverse/data-driven environment analysis, and environmental soft-sensing.
Dr. Kikumoto has authored about 100 peer-reviewed journal papers receiving more than 1700 citations with an H-index of 24 (Google Scholar). He has also received several awards for his contributions to the field, including the Encouragement Prize of the Architectural Institute of Japan (2018) and the Research Encouragement Prize of the Japan Association for Wind Engineering (2012).
To study in the Kikumoto Laboratory, students must be admitted to the Department of Architecture, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo. For details, please check the admission information of the department, especially on the page for international students.
